About us
Damen Song Cam Shipyard is engineering, outfitting, commissioning and delivering various Damen standard ship types. Basic designs and most components are delivered to DSCS by Damen Shipyards Gorinchem. DSCS will complete the detailed design, and production information, which will be used during the assembly of the vessels.
Commissioning and Sea trials department is a part of the Production department of Damen Song Cam Shipyard. This department is responsible for the verification and start-up of ship systems to secure good operation of all installations on board.
The role
Commissioning ships, ship systems, and installations to secure that they meet the required specifications and safety rules when supplied to the client.
Key accountabilities
As a Commissioning Engineer your tasks are the following:
- Check installation, set up, operate and finish testing programs following HAT/SAT protocols for systems on board.
- Check, support and coordinate the activity of Suppliers during commissioning phase.
- Report testing data in HAT/SAT documents as well as improvement points/standardization through engineering and PFL.
- Check/ verify ship systems and installed equipment on board. Use commissioning protocol and applicable engineering information.
- Prepare the safety equipment & trial boxes on board before trial of vessels.
- Participate during sea trials phase, record functioning of the vessels and solve issues that may arise.
Ensure a timely and correct completion of the commissioning report and presentation to the Class of several systems.
Support production by providing improvement proposals to the Engineering department.
- Support in system completion before delivery of vessels. Realize an effective planning during commissioning period.
- Monitor production progress, signal delays and determine consequences on the commissioning planning.
- Consult with the local manager and/or production manager.
- Intervene with planning in the case of deviations.
- Control enough trial equipment & maintain it regularly.
- Manage the commissioning tool & keep it in good condition.
Provide technical instructions to added employee(s) and/or hired workers and the training of a client. Explain the work activities, answer questions and solving issues are the most important tasks.
Inspection & running test all equipment & ship’s system follow the maintenance plan. Solve issues arise on board & report to the leader if difficult issues.
Observe the company- and work regulations (including quality, safety, and environment)
Skills & experience
To be successful in this role you bring:
Bachelor’s degree Marine Engineering or another relevant technical study;
About 3-to-5-year experience at other shipyard or sailing as the chief engineer/ 1st engineer for international shipping company.
You master excellent communication skills in English is a plus.

Damen Shiprepair & Conversion (DSC) has a worldwide network of 18 repair and conversion yards with drydocks ranging up to 420 x 80 metres. DSC yards have extensive experience – completing more than 1,300 projects every year, from normal drydockings for scheduled maintenance to damage repair, right up to extensive refit and conversion projects.
